10 Ways to Use Labubus in Therapy

Updated: Sep 15

If you’ve been on Instagram or TikTok lately, you’ve probably seen Labubus. These quirky, wide-eyed collectibles have captured the hearts of teens and adults alike. At Dynamic Lynks, we’re always on the lookout for creative ways to merge pop culture with therapy, because meeting clients where they’re at builds trust, excitement, and motivation.

Just like we did with Pokémon, we’ve discovered that Labubus aren’t just fun to collect; they can be powerful therapeutic tools.

Here are 10 ways you can use Labubus in therapy to boost engagement, creativity, and growth.

  1. Build Rapport!

Collectibles are a natural bridge to connection. Sharing favorite Labubu designs, trading stories, or even comparing collections is an instant icebreaker. It sets the stage for building trust in the therapy space.

  2. Express Emotions

Labubus are full of expressive faces and vibes. Clients can choose the Labubu that matches how they’re feeling, opening the door to talk about emotions and self-awareness in a safe, non-threatening way.

  3. Create a Therapy Mascot

The Flip With Me Labubu doll makes a great therapy mascot. Use it to introduce the “word of the month” or the theme of focus, such as friendship, self-control, or resilience. Kids love looking forward to what the mascot has to say.

  4. Practice Selective Attention

The same Flip With Me doll has changing eyes — and that’s a game waiting to happen! Each time the eyes flip, switch instruments, rhythms, or movement patterns. It’s a playful way to practice attention and cognitive flexibility.

  5. Build Stories Together

Invite clients to create short stories or comics about Labubu’s adventures. This supports sequencing, perspective-taking, and expressive language, while giving space for imagination and humor.

  6. Encourage Movement and Imitation

Let Labubu take the lead in a movement game. When the doll claps, stomps, or waves, clients mirror the action. This helps with motor planning, coordination, and group synchrony.

  7. Form a Labubu Band

Assign different Labubus to different instruments or rhythm patterns. Clients rotate roles, learning collaboration, turn-taking, and flexibility while making music together.

  8. Support Sensory Regulation

Many Labubus are squeezable, flippable, and fun to fidget with. Pairing tactile exploration with calming music creates a multisensory way to self-regulate and reduce stress.

  9. Inspire Creative Songwriting

Every Labubu deserves a theme song! Clients can write lyrics that match the character’s personality or state of being. It’s a playful way to practice songwriting while reinforcing coping skills, identity, and self-expression.

  10. Gamify with Rewards

Turn Labubus into motivators. Meeting therapy goals can “unlock” new Labubus. This gamifies progress and helps maintain momentum in sessions.

Why It Works

Labubus combine visual novelty with flexible play opportunities, making them a versatile tool for rapport building, emotional expression, and skill development. Whether you’re a music therapist, counselor, or educator, these little creatures can bring a big boost to your sessions.
