We are happy to welcome another skilled and passionate music therapy intern to Dynamic Lynks this fall: Leah! We asked Leah to share more about herself so our Dynamic community can get to know her better. We are excited for Leah to join us in sessions and groups over the next months.

Q: Where are you going to college for your music therapy degree?
I graduated from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, back in May. Go Bobcats!
Q: What is your main instrument, and what are your other favorite
instruments to play?
My main instrument is voice, but I also took some extra piano lessons for
my own enjoyment. Right now I’m having fun learning baritone ukulele!
Q: Where are you from?
I’m from Lewis Center, Ohio, which is 25-30 minutes from downtown
Columbus.
Q: Why do you want to be a music therapist?
As a music therapist, I want to empower kids and teens to be active agents
in their goals, learn to take care of themselves emotionally, and grow into
healthy adults. It’s so rewarding to see clients create something meaningful
with others and open up through music experiences in ways they might not
otherwise!
Q: What skills are you looking forward to learning about and working
on in Music Therapy sessions?
I enjoy working on social collaboration/teamwork and emotional expression
skills with clients. I’m interested in learning more about clients’ AAC
devices/strategies and ways to incorporate them into music experiences.
Also, I want to learn more about LGBTQIA+ centered care/approaches!

Q: What are your interests outside of music therapy?
I love to journal! I’m a words person, so I use that outlet to write and
occasionally collage/junk journal. Visiting national parks and hiking is one
of my all-time favorite things: I’d love to visit all of them in my lifetime! Two
summers ago, I took a trip to Olympic and Mt. Rainier in Washington.
Q: What do you want the Dynamic Lynks family to know about you?
In addition to my music therapy degree, I also minored in psychology. Some day I’d love to get my master's in counseling psychology so I can provide both music and talk therapy services to clients. I love to learn and have tons of random interests ranging from history to dance to movies, etc.
Lastly, I’m passionate about social justice and prioritizing one’s community, so I’m excited to make an impact here at Dynamic Lynks.
We can't wait to see Leah blossom and grow throughout her internship!
